This artwork lives in House of Barter, a community space built by the creative Black women of The Zoo XYZ.

Sage was inspired by a photograph discovered on Pinterest and became the first print Mundaii ever sold. Drawn to the subject's earthy, alternative aesthetic, the artist highlights details such as jewellery, facial tattoos, a nose ring, bleached brows, and locs to create a portrait that celebrates individuality and self-expression.

Gold jewellery, a recurring feature throughout Mundaii's work, reflects the artist's own personal style and serves as a way of leaving a piece of herself within every portrait she creates. Through Sage, Mundaii celebrates individuality, alternative beauty and the diversity of Black women.
